NHA is a non-profit membership organization.

NHA was established in August 1999, initially as a national committee of the International Hydropower Association which later transitioned to an independent organization.

With 192 individual and 32 corporate members, NHA cooperates with International Hydropower Association (IHA) and other national and international organizations to achieve its objectives.
